Auntie Approved Instructors

Finding a certified instructor can be challenging and confusing for beginners new to this community. The worst thing you can do is to find a local person who says he's been diving for 10+ years when he has no actual teaching license or liability insurance, nor is he a certified freediver...Freediving is an inherently dangerous sport BUT it can be practiced safely with proper training and safety knowledge. Becoming a certified freediver not only benefits yourself, but your buddies as well. Help us spread the knowledge of safe freediving by becoming certified freedivers. 

 

There are various agencies that offer freediving certification courses: Freediving Instructors International (FII), International Association for the Development of Apnea (AIDA), Molchanovs, Performance Freediving International (PFI), etc. Agency certifications may be transferable, inquire with your instructor. For example, if you take a Molchanov's Wave 1 course, and you'd like to take the next level with another agency, that's a possibility!

These below recommended certified instructors are all accredited with their various agencies; their instructor license are current. We recommend these instructors based on our community members 100% positive reviews, instructor reputations, class format, and cost. Please directly contact each instructor if you are interested in taking one of their courses.

Things to consider when choosing your instructor: 

1. Length of course: how many hours of instruction is provided in classroom, open water, and pool session. 

2. Location: is the instructor local to you, do you mind driving and staying in another city? Cost of hotel/airbnb is another consideration.

3. Cost: courses range from mid $400-$700 for a level 1 course. 

4. Class size: larger the class size, longer you'll have to wait for everyone to finish diving in open water. That could make or break it in the winter if it's cold. We prefer a smaller class size of no more than  4 students.
